Don’t be put off as we nearly were by the external appearance. Once you get inside it’s a treasure trove of just about every type of wood flooring that you might want. It is also staffed by the family who own the business, which means that we got to meet Jo. It became clear that they are doing this because they are enthusiasts for wood flooring, and to make a living, not a fortune. Prices for the wood flooring are not cheap, if you are comparing to the big chain outlets, but they can (and do, given the chance) explain the differences in quality and hence price. We met one of their fitters, Richard, who came and did an excellent job, and was prepared to discuss how and why he was doing things as he was. I learned a lot of useful tips. The cost of the fitting was very competitive with what we have seen elsewhere. One thing that says a lot for this company is that when they were let down by their supplier (it happens) it was Paul, the proprietor, who came around personally to the house to explain and apologise. Happy ending, our flooring is now in and is giving us the look that we very much wanted, and hopefully will do so for some years to come.
